Yacht Charter Packing List: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Packing for a yacht charter is not like packing for a hotel. Space is limited, storage is different, and half the things you think you need are already on board. This is the packing list MY OCEAN sends to every client before their charter.

The golden rule: soft bags only

Hard suitcases do not fit in yacht cabin storage. Bring a soft duffel bag or a foldable travel bag. Once unpacked, the crew stows your bag flat in a dedicated luggage area. If you arrive with a Rimowa, the crew will manage it, but it creates unnecessary work and takes up space that does not exist.

What to bring

Swimwear (at least three sets so one is always dry). Cover-ups for moving around the yacht. Reef-safe sunscreen (regular sunscreen damages marine ecosystems and some ports now require it). A wide-brimmed hat. Sunglasses with a strap. Non-marking white-soled deck shoes or boat shoes. One smart-casual outfit for evening dining in port. A light jacket or wrap for evening breezes. Your preferred seasickness remedy. A waterproof phone case. Any prescription medication you need.

What the yacht provides

Beach towels. Snorkelling gear (mask, snorkel, fins). Basic toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash). Hair dryers. Robes. Water toys (paddleboards, kayaks, jet skis depending on the yacht). Fishing gear on some yachts. All food and drink (covered by the APA).

What to leave behind

Hard suitcases. Dark-soled shoes (they mark the teak). Excessive formal wear. Your own towels. Bulky toiletries. Anything you would not want to get wet or salty.

Packing for kids

Bring UV-protective swimwear, water shoes for rocky beaches, a favourite toy or book for downtime, and any specific snacks they will not eat alternatives to. The crew will have kids menus and activities planned, but familiar items help younger children settle in.
