Choosing where to charter matters as much as choosing the yacht. The destination shapes the weather, the anchorages, the food, the pace, and the total cost. Here are the destinations delivering the best charter experiences in 2026, based on what MY OCEAN is actually booking for clients this year — not a generic list compiled from a travel database.

French Riviera: Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Monaco

Season: May to September. Peak: July and August. Best value: June and September.

The French Riviera remains the world's most requested charter destination. The combination of Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Antibes, and Monaco in a single week is difficult to match anywhere else. The Côte d'Azur offers Michelin-starred restaurants accessible by tender, world-class marinas, and anchorages that have been serving yachts for over a century.

The social calendar in July and August is unmatched: the Cannes Film Festival in May, the Monaco Grand Prix in June, and a continuous stream of events through the summer. If you want to be where the action is, this is the destination. If you want quiet anchorages and uncrowded bays, come in June or September.

Charter costs on the French Riviera are the highest in the Mediterranean. Marina fees in Monaco and Saint-Tropez in July are €1,500–€3,000 per night for a 35-metre vessel. Budget accordingly, or anchor out and take the tender in.

Balearic Islands: Ibiza, Mallorca, Formentera

Season: May to October. Peak: July and August. Best value: June and September.

The Balearics offer the best value in the western Mediterranean. Formentera's water clarity rivals the Caribbean. Ibiza's north coast anchorages are genuinely uncrowded in June and September. Charter costs are 20 to 30 percent lower than the French Riviera for comparable yachts.

Mallorca is the largest island and offers the most variety: the dramatic northwest coast, the sheltered bay of Pollensa in the north, and the busy marina scene in Palma. A week that combines Mallorca and Formentera covers the full range of what the Balearics offer.

Best for: families, groups of friends, repeat charterers looking for something different from the French Riviera.

Amalfi Coast and Sardinia

Season: June to September. Best months: June and September.

The Amalfi Coast offers one of the most concentrated charter experiences in the Mediterranean. Positano, Capri, and the Amalfi coastline can be covered in three to four days, leaving time for a crossing to Sardinia's Costa Smeralda or the Aeolian Islands. The food is exceptional — fresh seafood, local pasta, and the kind of cooking that only exists in this corner of Italy.

Capri is the anchor of any Amalfi itinerary. The Blue Grotto, the Faraglioni rocks, and the views from the top of the island justify the trip on their own. The anchorage off the Marina Grande is crowded in August but manageable in June and September.

Croatia

Season: May to October. Best months: June and September.

Croatia continues to grow as a charter destination. The Dalmatian coast from Split to Dubrovnik offers over 1,000 islands, clear water, and marina fees that are a fraction of the French Riviera. The sailing is excellent — consistent winds, protected anchorages, and a coastline that rewards exploration.

Hvar, Korčula, and Vis are the standout islands. Hvar has a vibrant social scene and excellent restaurants. Korčula is quieter and more authentically Croatian. Vis is the most remote of the three — less developed, clearer water, and a sense of genuine escape.

Best for: sailing enthusiasts, budget-conscious luxury, adventurous itineraries, guests who want to avoid the crowds of the western Mediterranean.

Greece and the Greek Islands

Season: May to October. Best months: June and September.

The Cyclades — Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Naxos — and the Dodecanese — Rhodes, Kos, Patmos — offer a different pace from the western Mediterranean. The water is warm, the food is fresh, and the anchorages are less regulated than France or Italy. Charter costs are competitive.

The meltemi wind that blows through the Cyclades in July and August is the defining feature of Greek island sailing.
